About Sunbelt Rentals
Sunbelt Rentals is a commercial and residential equipment rental company with locations across the continental United States. More than 10 percent of its workforce are veterans, and the company operates a Veterans Program built around four stated pillars: resources, recruitment, recognition, and retention.
The SkillBridge program runs in person at 51 locations across 26 states and the District of Columbia. Training takes place at a branch determined through the interview process, generally near where the service member intends to live after transition. The program combines guided on-the-job experience, online coursework, and regular discussions with branch leaders and managers.
Interns can train toward several role types, including mechanics and technicians across equipment lines such as general construction, pumps, power generation, and HVAC; Class A and Class B CDL drivers; logistics and dispatch; equipment rental specialist; outside sales; recruiting; and management. A Technician 1 track specifically focuses on preventive maintenance, minor repairs, equipment check-ins, and assisting with electrical, hydraulic, and diesel engine work on construction equipment. The program is structured so that each participant understands their post-transition role, how to perform it, and where to go for support.

The Technician 1 performs preventive maintenance and makes minor repairs on equipment within the area of responsibility as needed in the safest and most effective way possible to avoid down time.
What the work involves
Position Responsibilities: • Performs check-ins and minor repairs when equipment is returned to the shop • Assists other shop Technicians with loading and unloading of equipment as needed • Assists other equipment Technicians with electrical, hydraulic, and/or diesel engine repairs or maintenance of construction equipment as needed • Cleans, pressure washes and preps equipment for repairs • May primarily perform full-service maintenance on small equipment, e.g., two-stroke engines generators or diagnose simple mechanical problems on small electrics, e.g., circuit breakers • Maintain safe work environment and perform duties in accordance with safety standards Knowledge/Skills you may rely on: • Diagnose repairs or complete maintenance on Military/combat vehicles • Following maintenance schedules for equipment to remain operational • Repairs performed under tight deadlines • Following protocols to ensure tasks are completed safely • Adaptability from working on combat tools to heavy equipment

The ideal candidate will have a background in mechanics, machine maintenance, equipment repair, avionics, electronics, hydraulics, heavy equipment operator, construction equipment repair, light wheel mechanics, engine mechanics, logistics, recruiting, administrative, motor transport, and other backgrounds which may fit into Sunbelt Rentals.
What the work involves
All of the Service Members internship and training will occur at a location determined through the interview process, at a location nearest to where they desire to live, which will meet the requirements of the program they are enrolled in. Training will focus on preparing participants for various roles within the organization and the equipment rental industry, including: Mechanics / Technicians (multiple lines of equipment, including General Construction, pumps, power-generation, HVAC, and more), Drivers (Class A and Class B CDL), Logistics / Dispatcher, Equipment Rental Specialist, Outside Sales (non-commission), Recruiting and Management Training programs.
