Privacy policy
Short version. We collect your email address if you give it to us, we use it to send you what you asked for, we do not sell it, and you can have it deleted by asking.
What we collect
Three things, and nothing else that identifies you:
- Your email address, if you enter it. We store it with the page you gave it on and whether you agreed to receive email from us, so we can honor that choice and show our work if you ever ask.
- Standard web request data, which our host records to serve the site and block abuse. This includes your IP address and browser type.
- Usage analytics, described in the next section.
We do not ask for your Social Security number, your date of separation, your DD-214, or your service record to browse this site or join the list.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and receives your IP address. We use it to understand traffic in aggregate, not to identify you individually.
You can block this. Google publishes an opt-out add-on attools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, and most browsers will let you refuse cookies from this site. Nothing on HiredTroops stops working if you do.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- We do not hand your contact information to recruiters, employers, or lead brokers.
- We do not charge you, and we take no share of your pay if you are hired. That promise is on our Always Free page.
Email you receive from us
If you enter your email address, you are on the list from that moment, and a welcome message follows. We do not send a separate email asking you to confirm first. Every message we send carries an unsubscribe link that works, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. You can also reply to any message and ask to be removed.
Where your information is held
Our list and site data are stored with Supabase on servers in the United States. The site itself is served by Cloudflare. Both act as our service providers, process this data on our instructions, and do not get to use it for their own marketing.
Unsubscribing does not delete your address, and we want to be straight with you about why. We keep the record precisely so we can keep honoring your unsubscribe. If we deleted it, a later signup form or import could put you back on the list, and you would hear from us again after telling us not to. The record is what makes the promise stick.
Deleting the record is a separate request, and you are entitled to make it. Ask us and we will delete it outright.
Your choices
Write to us and we will act on any of the following: tell you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop contacting you. Depending on where you live, some of these may be legal rights rather than courtesies. We extend them to everyone who asks, either way, and we will not make you prove residency to get them.
Children
This site is meant for adults transitioning out of military service. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Security
We limit who can reach the list, and access requires credentials that the public site does not carry. No system is perfect, and we are not going to promise you one is. If we ever learn of a breach affecting your information, we will say so plainly and promptly.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top. If a change is material, meaning it affects what we collect or who sees it, we will say so in plain language rather than quietly editing the page.
