How we rank
Every list on this site is ordered by a published rule. The rule is the same for every visitor, and no organization can pay to move up it.
The order we use
Sorted by listing completeness. Placement is never for sale.
Listing completeness counts how many of the fields that actually help you decide are filled in: length, delivery method, eligible branches, career field, target occupations, eligibility text, job description, and summary. An organization that filled out eight of eight sorts above one that filled out two, because the first listing can answer your questions and the second cannot.
Completeness is a measure of the record, not a judgment about the organization or the work. A sparse listing can be a good program run by people who did not enjoy filling in a government form. It does mean you will have to ask them more questions.
Ties break on name, in alphabetical order, so the result is deterministic. Load the same page twice and you get the same order. Load it from a different device and you get the same order.
Placement is never for sale
No organization can buy a higher position, a highlight, a badge, or an earlier appearance in any list on this site. There is no advertised tier, no priority slot, and no promoted result. We are not planning to add one.
If a listing on this site is ever sponsored, it will say so on the listing itself, in text, where you are reading it. It will not be hidden in a policy page or implied by a subtle style difference.
We do not sell your information
Using this directory does not put you in a database that gets sold to employers. We do not offer a candidate list, a resume feed, or a contact export as a product, at any price. What we collect and why is on the privacy page, and you can leave the email list in one click from any email or from the unsubscribe page.
Why we publish this at all
A directory that sells its own result order is telling you something different from what it appears to be telling you. You cannot see that from the outside, which is exactly the problem. Publishing the rule is the only way the claim means anything, so the rule is here and the code follows it.
Service members never pay for anything on HiredTroops. The free for you page states that commitment in full.
