What these labels mean

MOU active: An MOU is the agreement between an employer and the SkillBridge program. When it expires, the employer has to renew it before it can take new service members.
MOU expires soon: The agreement ends within 90 days. That is not a reason to rule a program out. It is a reason to ask the employer where the renewal stands.
MOU expired: The date on the government listing has passed. We still show the program, because hiding it would shrink this directory in a way we could not explain. Confirm status with the employer before you apply.
MOU date not stated: The government listing carries no expiration date for this organization.
Detailed listing: The employer filled in most of its record: length, delivery method, eligibility, and a description of the work.
Partial listing: Some of those fields are filled in and some are blank.
Sparse listing: Very little of the record is filled in. That is common, and it is not a judgment about the program or the employer. It does mean you will have to ask them more questions directly.

About Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission

Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is a state government agency in Washington that manages a system of parks across the state. The agency's stated mission is to connect all Washingtonians to their natural and cultural heritage and provide memorable recreational and educational experiences that enhance their lives. The SkillBridge internship program runs in person and is based within the Central Whidbey Area State Parks.

The internship runs 61 to 90 days. The Central Whidbey Area State Parks sees over 100,000 visitors annually and provides interpretive experiences for more than 20,000 of those visitors. Parks in the area include Fort Casey, Fort Ebey, Ebey's Landing, and South Whidbey. Interns work alongside more experienced staff to develop, implement, and evaluate formal and informal programs related to natural and cultural resources.

During the internship, participants will design and carry out an interpretive program or special event of their own, support the running of park events, and assist in the development and production of interpretive signage. Interns also shadow staff in roles such as Rangers, Park Aides, and Crew and Maintenance personnel to gain broader exposure to park operations. The program is open to all military occupational classifications and is listed across 24 program locations within Washington State.

Eligibility

A positive team player; excellent public speaking skills; experience in educational methods, especially with youth; ability to work with volunteers of all ages; knowledge of cultural studies, Pacific Northwest history, and natural sciences; ability to work independently, yet stay within established guidelines and frameworks; organized. Intern will be working around children and general public and so intern will be required to pass a background check.
