What these labels mean

MOU active: An MOU is the agreement between an employer and the SkillBridge program. When it expires, the employer has to renew it before it can take new service members.
MOU expires soon: The agreement ends within 90 days. That is not a reason to rule a program out. It is a reason to ask the employer where the renewal stands.
MOU expired: The date on the government listing has passed. We still show the program, because hiding it would shrink this directory in a way we could not explain. Confirm status with the employer before you apply.
MOU date not stated: The government listing carries no expiration date for this organization.
Detailed listing: The employer filled in most of its record: length, delivery method, eligibility, and a description of the work.
Partial listing: Some of those fields are filled in and some are blank.
Sparse listing: Very little of the record is filled in. That is common, and it is not a judgment about the program or the employer. It does mean you will have to ask them more questions directly.

Summary

Sherer’s Boat Basin is offering a SkillBridge internship focused on small business management through the real-world operational environment of a marina. This program is designed for transitioning service members interested in business operations, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Participants will gain hands-on experience and mentorship in the day-to-day management of a service-based business, including customer service, operational logistics, scheduling, business administration, financial fundamentals, and regulatory compliance. The marina environment provides practical exposure to managing a business that supports recreational boating, vessel storage, and marine services. This structured program is ideal for service members seeking careers in business management, operations, or those interested in owning or managing their own business.

Eligibility

• Must be an active duty service member approved for participation in the SkillBridge program • Must be within 180 days of separation or retirement • Must have command approval • Ability to work in an in-person training environment • Interest in business operations, management, or entrepreneurship preferred • Ability to stand for extended periods of time • Ability to maintain balance while working on or around vessels and docks • Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, including overhead lifting when necessary • Ability to safely navigate a marina environment, including docks and vessels • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Willingness to learn, take direction, and actively participate in a structured training program

What the work involves

Participants in this SkillBridge program will engage in structured training focused on small business operations using a marina as the operational environment. Training includes guided observation, mentorship, and supervised participation in daily business activities. Key training areas include: • Business operations and workflow management • Customer service and client relationship management • Scheduling and service coordination • Administrative processes and recordkeeping • Financial fundamentals including pricing, invoicing, and expense tracking • Operational logistics and facility management • Regulatory compliance and safety practices • Leadership and business decision-making Participants will work directly with experienced business owners and managers to gain practical insight into running a small business in a service-based industry. Participants will not replace employees and will engage in structured mentorship, observation, and supervised training activities.
