What these labels mean

MOU active: An MOU is the agreement between an employer and the SkillBridge program. When it expires, the employer has to renew it before it can take new service members.
MOU expires soon: The agreement ends within 90 days. That is not a reason to rule a program out. It is a reason to ask the employer where the renewal stands.
MOU expired: The date on the government listing has passed. We still show the program, because hiding it would shrink this directory in a way we could not explain. Confirm status with the employer before you apply.
MOU date not stated: The government listing carries no expiration date for this organization.
Detailed listing: The employer filled in most of its record: length, delivery method, eligibility, and a description of the work.
Partial listing: Some of those fields are filled in and some are blank.
Sparse listing: Very little of the record is filled in. That is common, and it is not a judgment about the program or the employer. It does mean you will have to ask them more questions directly.

About Project Victory Gardens

Project Victory Gardens is a nonprofit organization operating under the name Palmetto Veterans in Agribusiness (PVIA). The organization was established to help military veterans transition into careers and self-employment in farming and agribusiness. Its leadership includes a President and an Executive Director. The organization is headquartered in Townville, South Carolina, and its SkillBridge program operates across 50 locations in 2 states: South Carolina and Virtual.

Through its SkillBridge internship, transitioning service members are placed with a consortium of host farms, Extension Offices, and agribusinesses across South Carolina. Program managers interview prospective participants to match them with vetted host sites based on their stated goals. All participants complete training in farm safety, agribusiness planning, horticulture, poultry, livestock, and regulatory requirements, with additional modules available in areas such as forestry, cattle production, beekeeping, and commercial crops. Internships run 91 to 120 days and are conducted in person.

A second track, the Large-Scale Agribusiness Internship, places interns within commercial farming operations where they rotate through departments including Human Resources, Information Technology, Procurement, Food Safety, and Agritourism. Participants complete 640 hours of structured training over 16 weeks, combining on-the-job rotations with classroom instruction at Farmer Bootcamp and bi-weekly online mentoring sessions. Both tracks conclude with a final week of interviews and assessments at Project Victory Gardens. Target outcomes include careers as farmers, extension agents, or agricultural business managers, as well as pathways to further formal instruction in agriculture.

What the work involves

Under the guidance of departmental supervisors and industry professionals, participants will support workforce recruitment and compliance, assist in managing enterprise software and precision agriculture technologies, participate in vendor sourcing and supply chain logistics, conduct food safety inspections and documentation, and help design agritourism and marketing initiatives. Training includes structured on-the-job rotations, Farmer Bootcamp classroom instruction, and online mentoring to ensure a comprehensive learning experience. This internship equips transitioning service members with the technical, business, and leadership skills necessary to pursue post-service careers in agribusiness management, commercial farm operations, food systems, or related industries.

Training is intended to prepare participants with the skills, knowledge, and abilities to seek self employment in theagribusiness fields, gain employment among South Carolina’s vast agribusiness industry, or encourage further formalinstruction in agriculture in preparation for a career for agricultural education or extension work. Participants will be vetted togain a better understanding of their end goals and matched to the program that fits their needs. What the work involves

Farmers can specialize in different agricultural sectors, providing food, animal products and raw materials. A farmer is anagricultural professional who raises living animals or plants. They may produce raw materials, food or animal products. They can specialize in different agricultural areas such as dairy or flowers. Extension Agents are employed by land-grant universities and serve the citizens of that particular state by serving as an expert or teacher on a topic relating to economics,community development, agriculture, family, animal production, diet and nutrition. Agricultural business managers oversee thebusiness operations of a farm by providing leadership and organization during the production process. From contactingcreditors to selecting seeds for the planting season and buying new farming equipment, it is their responsibility to ensure thatthe production and distribution of produce, grain or livestock abides by government and environmental regulations at the bestrate of profit. They may have a number of duties, including selecting and supervising workers, planning a budget, organizingroutine maintenance, keeping records and communicating with potential product buyers. Agricultural business managersusually specialize in crops, horticulture or livestock, and these workers may oversee more than one facility.
