Maricopa County is a county government entity headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Through the SkillBridge program, Maricopa County offers internship placements across 6 locations in Arizona, with some positions available in a hybrid format. Tracks cover a range of functional areas. In the Human Services Department, participants may work in administrative support roles or in SharePoint administration, organizing filing systems and developing naming conventions. The Animal Care and Control placement puts participants with the Shelter Diversion Team, assessing cases and connecting residents with resources to avoid shelter surrender. The Air Quality placement involves technical work testing, installing, operating, and maintaining air quality monitoring instrumentation in lab and field settings, with participants receiving a completion certificate for modules completed in the EPA Air Knowledge Program.
Additional placements include database administration supporting the Correctional Health Services Department, with training in SQL, database development, and performance optimization under senior-level guidance, and a Human Resources track covering recruitment, compensation, leave management, and onboarding under senior-level Human Resources Business Partners. Summary
Under general supervision, the Database Administrator is responsible for database development, implementation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring, and maintenance in support of the Maricopa County Correctional Health Services Department.
What the work involves
Under the guidance of a Senior-level Database Developer, the Skillbridge participant will receive training and instruction in preparing, defining, developing, implementing, and maintaining database objects for a large organization. The participant will analyze query performance, identify bottlenecks, implement optimization techniques, and define and implement interfaces to ensure that various applications and user-installed or vendor-developed systems interact with the required database systems. The work instruction includes detailed guidance in creating database structures, writing and testing SQL queries, and optimizing database performance. The participant will shadow senior team members and work with business analysts and other stakeholders to understand requirements and integrate database solutions. After a training period, the individual in this internship will build and implement database systems that meet specific business requirements while ensuring data integrity and security, as well as troubleshooting and resolving database issues.
