Maine Turnpike Authority

Maine Turnpike Authority is a toll road authority based in Portland, Maine. The organization operates the Maine Turnpike and is funded entirely by tolls, with no state tax dollars supporting its operations. Its 400 team members maintain and operate the roadway, which handles more than 96 million transactions per year and spans 109 miles across the state. The authority's administrative headquarters is located in Portland.

SkillBridge interns work in Portland across five program tracks offered by different departments. The Engineering Department places interns in the field alongside civil engineers, conducting bridge and highway inspections, collecting technical data, monitoring construction activity, and supporting environmental compliance work. The Information Services Department trains interns on the E-ZPass toll collection infrastructure, including traffic count stations, variable message signs, and traffic signals, with the intern serving as a liaison between maintenance providers and internal teams. The E-ZPass Customer Service track focuses on inbound patron support, account management in the System i database, and processing financial transactions. The Human Resources track covers the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment coordination, onboarding, and personnel records management. The Public Relations and Communications track places interns directly with the Director of Communications, supporting media tracking, digital content, and public outreach.

Program lengths vary by track. Engineering runs 151 to 180 days. The remaining four tracks each run 61 to 90 days. All programs are conducted in person.
