The SkillBridge program runs across 16 locations in 9 states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington. The program is delivered in person and is structured around the Construction and Materials Engineering and Testing (CoMET) discipline.
Interns begin with orientation and safety training before moving into a construction and materials testing laboratory, where they learn the fundamentals of materials testing. After completing laboratory work, they transition to active construction sites to gain hands-on experience in materials testing and special inspections. By the end of the internship, participants are expected to have the basic skills and certifications needed to pursue a career as a construction and materials laboratory technician or special inspector. The program is open to all separating service members who meet DoD SkillBridge eligibility requirements.

Summary
After the Service member completes the orientation and safety training, they will move into the construction and materials testing laboratory to learn about the materials testing industry. Once laboratory training is completed the intern will move into the field and be exposed to materials testing on active construction sites as well as special inspections. Upon completion of the internship, the intern will have the basic skills and certifications to begin a career on the Construction and Materials Engineering and Testing (CoMET) field.
