Summary

The Hallmark University School of Nursing Nurse Educator Fellowship is a structured 12-week (480-hour) Department of Defense SkillBridge training program designed for transitioning service members with nursing experience who are interested in pursuing a career in higher education. Participants receive comprehensive training and mentorship from experienced nursing faculty while developing the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to become successful nursing instructors. Throughout the fellowship, participants gain hands-on experience in classroom instruction, clinical education, simulation-based learning, laboratory instruction, curriculum development, student assessment, educational technology, academic advising, accreditation, and faculty leadership. The program follows a progressive learning model that transitions participants from observation to supervised teaching and culminates in an independent teaching practicum and capstone experience. Upon successful completion, participants receive a Certificate of Completion documenting 480 hours of supervised Nurse Educator Fellowship training and will be well prepared for consideration for future nursing faculty opportunities, subject to institutional hiring needs and qualifications.

What the work involves

The Nurse Educator Fellow participates in a comprehensive faculty development program designed to prepare experienced registered nurses for careers in academic nursing. Under the guidance of experienced faculty mentors, participants progressively develop instructional, clinical, leadership, and professional competencies necessary to serve as effective nursing educators. Primary training experiences include: Participate in a structured 12-week competency-based Nurse Educator Fellowship. Observe and assist experienced nursing faculty in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings. Develop lesson plans, learning objectives, instructional materials, and classroom presentations. Deliver supervised classroom instruction using evidence-based teaching strategies. Facilitate active learning activities that promote clinical judgment and critical thinking. Assist with laboratory instruction and evaluate psychomotor skill performance. Participate in simulation planning, facilitation, pre-briefing, debriefing, and competency evaluation. Supervise nursing students during clinical learning experiences under faculty supervision. Develop and administer student assessments, examinations, grading rubrics, and remediation plans. Utilize educational technology, including Canvas, ATI, Microsoft Teams, and other instructional platforms. Participate in academic advising, mentoring, and student success initiatives. Observe and participate in curriculum planning, faculty meetings, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement processes. Collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty, clinical partners, and university staff. Complete reflective learning activities, professional development assignments, and competency evaluations. Develop a professional teaching portfolio and complete a capstone teaching demonstration. Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, effective communication, and leadership consistent with Hallmark University's mission and values. Preferred Qualifications Active Duty Service Member approved for participation in the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility for licensure. Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree in Nursing preferred or currently pursuing. Recent clinical nursing experience. Strong communication, leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills. Interest in nursing education, mentoring, and professional development. Ability to work collaboratively in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical learning environments.
