Summary
Skillbridge interns will serve as Math or ELA Teacher Assistants in one of our public charter schools. Content and school placement will be discussed as part of the interview process that aligns with both school needs and the intern’s demonstrated area of interest. As a part of this job training program, Interns will learn the key components of push-in and pull-out academic/social-emotional intervention as well as core instruction. In addition to instructional training, they will also gain valuable experience in family engagement, student recruitment/enrollment, and campus operations, providing Service Members valuable skills that will help them support student engagement and, ultimately, support employment post-internship in public charter schools.

Required: Bachelor's Degree (Any Field) or Plan to Complete Bachelors within 1 Semester (No Teacher Certification Required)Commitment to working in traditionally underserved communities Ability to pass a federal background check to work with children Approval from current supervisor through the SkillBridge program requirements Highly Preferred: Experience working with K-12 students (i.e. Schools, afterschool programs, volunteering, church/synagogue, etc.)
What the work involves
Position Reports To: Campus Principal Please Note: SkillBridge is only available to active-duty service members who would begin the program within 180 days of their separation date, meaning it is exclusively for transitioning military personnel and not open to civilians or veterans who are not currently serving. Program Details:90-180 Day Internship Target Start Date: Ongoing Continuous Enrollment (Target Dates: August 2025 and Janaury 2026)Your Responsibilities Instructional Delivery Set academic expectations that challenge and create productive struggle. Persist with the lesson, ask probing questions, and address student mistakes until there is evidence that students demonstrate mastery of the objective. Consistently implement an 80/20 classroom where 80% of the time students are engaged in rigorous practice, different types of thinking, and doing the heavy cognitive lift to take the initiative of their own learning. Convey accurate content knowledge in multiple contexts. Integrate learning objectives with other disciplines. Adapt lessons to address the individual needs of all students and provide differentiated instructional methods and content to ensure students have the opportunity to master what is being taught. Learning Environment Procedures, routines, and transitions are clear and efficient to create a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment. Consistently engages in community and restorative circles with students. The teacher builds trust authentically and cares for the whole child as well as the family unit the child is a part of. Advocates for the needs of students in the classroom. Professional Practices and Responsibilities Meet professional standards by the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators and Compass Rose Employee handbook/policies. (e.g., attendance, professional appearance, and behaviors, timeliness to work, meeting deadlines, using discretion with confidential information, using good judgment in performing responsibilities)Set short- and long-term professional goals based on self-assessment, reflection, and supervisor feedback.
