What these labels mean

MOU active: An MOU is the agreement between an employer and the SkillBridge program. When it expires, the employer has to renew it before it can take new service members.
MOU expires soon: The agreement ends within 90 days. That is not a reason to rule a program out. It is a reason to ask the employer where the renewal stands.
MOU expired: The date on the government listing has passed. We still show the program, because hiding it would shrink this directory in a way we could not explain. Confirm status with the employer before you apply.
MOU date not stated: The government listing carries no expiration date for this organization.
Detailed listing: The employer filled in most of its record: length, delivery method, eligibility, and a description of the work.
Partial listing: Some of those fields are filled in and some are blank.
Sparse listing: Very little of the record is filled in. That is common, and it is not a judgment about the program or the employer. It does mean you will have to ask them more questions directly.

About Coastal Carolina Community College

Coastal Carolina Community College is a community college located in Jacksonville, North Carolina, near Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. Through its SkillBridge participation, the college offers in-person training programs to active-duty service members within six months of separation. All programs run in North Carolina.

SkillBridge participants at Coastal Carolina can pursue training in a range of fields depending on their career goals. Available programs include Truck Driver Training leading to a Class A CDL license, a CompTIA Network+ and Security+ preparation course that runs eight weeks and 180 hours, Basic Law Enforcement Training, Phlebotomy, Construction Basics, a Fire Services Academy, and a Powerline Technician pre-apprenticeship. Instruction is delivered in person, with some programs incorporating lab work and clinical rotations.

Each program is oriented toward a specific credential or certification. The Truck Driver Training course prepares students for the NCDMV CDL test and also covers NCDOT Flagger Certification, AHA CPR Certification, and DOT Hazmat theory. The Phlebotomy program is certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and graduates are eligible to sit for the ASCP National Phlebotomy Certification examination. The CompTIA course prepares students for two globally recognized IT certifications. The Basic Law Enforcement Training program operates under standards set by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and holds MOUs with MCB Camp Lejeune, MCAS Cherry Point, and MCAS New River.

Summary

Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, or municipal governments, or with private enterprise. This program utilizes State commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, and alcohol beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics and community relations. Students must successfully complete and pass all units of study mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission to receive a certificate.

Eligibility

Applicants must: Be at least 21 years old (20 years old with official request of law enforcement agency); Have a clean criminal and driving record; Pass the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) with a score of at least 10th grade reading level; Pass the Police Officer Physical Agility Test (POPAT); Have graduated high school; Have a valid North Carolina driver's license (active duty and military dependents exempt); Secure sponsorship from a North Carolina law enforcement agency; Have a North Carolina licensed medical professional verify their physical-readiness; Retrieve and submit an OFFICIAL Local Criminal Records Check for every county resided in the United States since the age of 16; Disclose all criminal charges (regardless of disposition), military disciplinary issues, college disciplinary issues, as well as ALL illicit drug use; Complete and surrender all documentation provided by the BLET Director. Applicants must Provide Copies of: High School Diploma / GED / or Transcript Showing Graduation Date; Birth Certificate; NC Driver License; DD214 - Member 4 Showing Discharge Status (if former military).

Emergency Medical Technician - Designed to train individuals to become emergency medical personnel, this course teaches patient assessment and basic life support techniques including airway management and CPR; hemorrhage control; oxygen administration; shock; bandaging and splinting; skull, spine, and chest injuries; child birthing; exposure to cold and heat; and transferring patients to medical facilities. Successful completion of this course allows the student to take the North Carolina and National EMT Registry exams. This course will follow the guidelines established by the North Carolina Office of EMS. The curriculum for the EMT educational program shall be the 1994 release of the United States Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration EMT-Basic Course: National Standard Curriculum and the Supplemental Airways Modules for EMT-Basic; NSC. In this 12-week program, students will learn to draw blood specimens from patients for the purpose of testing and analysis. The first six weeks consists of lectures and labs, during which students will practice procedures prior to attending clinical training. The second six weeks, students will attend a clinical rotation at a local medical facility. There will also be homework assignments delivered online. Access to a computer and the Internet and the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader is essential. The total course hours are 257.
