What these labels mean

MOU active: An MOU is the agreement between an employer and the SkillBridge program. When it expires, the employer has to renew it before it can take new service members.
MOU expires soon: The agreement ends within 90 days. That is not a reason to rule a program out. It is a reason to ask the employer where the renewal stands.
MOU expired: The date on the government listing has passed. We still show the program, because hiding it would shrink this directory in a way we could not explain. Confirm status with the employer before you apply.
MOU date not stated: The government listing carries no expiration date for this organization.
Detailed listing: The employer filled in most of its record: length, delivery method, eligibility, and a description of the work.
Partial listing: Some of those fields are filled in and some are blank.
Sparse listing: Very little of the record is filled in. That is common, and it is not a judgment about the program or the employer. It does mean you will have to ask them more questions directly.

Summary

Baker Construction’s SkillBridge Program provides transitioning service members with a structured 16-week training and on-the-job experience in the concrete construction industry. The program combines classroom learning, hands-on boot camp training, and mentored field assignments at active project sites in the DMV area. Participants will gain exposure to trade skills, project engineering, safety, supervision, and other career paths, with the opportunity to receive a full-time employment offer upon successful completion.

Eligibility

Service members must be within 180 days of separation and have command approval to participate. Participants must commit to the full program and be available for training in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region. No cost to the service member.

What the work involves

Participants will be immersed in Baker’s operations through a blended model of classroom instruction and on-the-job training. Training begins with a one-week boot camp at the Ashburn, VA Training Facility, followed by field assignments with experienced mentors. Over the course of the program, service members will rotate through core skill areas including laborer, carpenter, field engineer, and place/finish to build a baseline of construction skills. Additional classroom modules will cover safety, construction math, blueprint reading, layout, and quality practices. Career paths within Baker include Carpentry Journeyman, Skilled Labor, Concrete Finisher, Field Engineering, Project Engineering/Management, Field Supervision, Safety Leadership, BIM Detailing, Estimating, and Quality Assurance. At the conclusion of the program, recruits will complete a review board and may be extended a full-time employment offer aligned with their interests and demonstrated strengths.
