Summary

The Nuclear Security Professional provides physical protection of nuclear power generating facilities against intrusion and acts of sabotage. The Security Professional conducts stationary guarding as well as foot and/or vehicle patrol (interior and/or exterior), controls access and/or egress of personnel, materials, and vehicles. The Security Professional will also monitor CCTV, plant surveillance equipment and alarm systems, compose reports, deter criminal activity, misconduct, and safety violations. Additional duties may be assigned in nuclear training and qualification plan and post orders.

Eligibility

x Be able to work scheduled twelve-hour shifts x Be able to operate a radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors and surveillance equipment. X Demonstrate an ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public x Be at least 21 years old or minimum age required by your State x Pass the following, post-offer: o Pearson Reid Reading and Arithmetic Index o Security Officer Profile test x Pass the following, post-offer in accordance with the code of federal regulations for armed nuclear security assignment (10CFR, Appendix B): o MMPI – Psychological testing o Physical Exams, including vision and hearing, in accordance with nuclear regulatory requirements and site training and qualification plan o Physical fitness (agilities) test in accordance with site training and qualification plan o Firearms qualification with handgun, shotgun and rifle per client contract and site training and qualification plan o Nuclear site-specific training and testing providing general knowledge of nuclear power generation science and principles, plant rules and regulations, communications, and access. In addition, this training and testing will include radiation worker principles including respirator training, fit and dress out.

What the work involves

x Identify safety and/or fire hazards and make recommendations for improvement x Report degradation, deficiencies, and accidents in accordance with current procedures and take appropriate corrective actions as directed by Security force Supervision x Control access of personnel, vehicles and materials into the protected area and maintain appropriate log x Assess alarms, investigate, and report suspicious activities and/or circumstances x Perform protected area, vital area, and fire watch patrols and maintain appropriate logs x Maintain compliance with all site policies, procedures, and directives x Perform owner-controlled area vehicle patrol and maintain appropriate logs x Perform compensatory postings and escort duties as directed by Security Force Supervision and in accordance with current procedures and directives x Perform surveillance tests and inspections and test alarm systems such as metal detectors, explosive detectors, x-ray machines, perimeter alarms, protected and vital area alarms, and radiological fire barrier alarms and maintain appropriate logs x Perform nightly lighting deficiencies audit to ensure compliance with appropriate procedures x Respond to contingency events in accordance with appropriate procedures and as directed by Security Force Supervision x Participate in security drills, practical exercises and required training programs as directed x Maintain periodic qualification of armed response, physical fitness, and weapon requirements x Maintain periodic qualification of academic requirements including (Radiation protection, Access authorization, Emergency plan, etc.)x Adhere to regulatory fatigue orders and work hours tracking requirements x Ensure house-keeping expectations are met x Maintain all required qualifications for site access
